Granny Boo's Deli

Granny Boo's Deli is located at the Cartlandia food pod in Portland, Oregon. Co-owners Shelley Richmond and Lori Billa serve various breakfast and lunch sandwiches, and they are happy to make any order at any time if it's available!

After seeing Cartlandia's Facebook page updated with a new cart alert (Granny Boo's), I stopped by on a chilly, rainy day.

Hope this becomes reality!
Several items to choose from, all sounding delicious. Several breakfast sandwich possibilities and an array of lunch subs. Then factor in all possible toppings/condiments, and I swore my panda head spun around like some freak sideshow act. So many delicious choices....

Eventually, I went for simple and awesome. Hot pastrami and Swiss, on a sub roll, with mustard and sauerkraut. A full sized sub roll, probably around a foot long, just packed with pastrami. A layer of melted Swiss stood between the bread and the meat. A healthy dousing of mustard and kraut later, I seriously wondered if the entire sandwich would fit inside my gut. $7.50? Good deal!

Warm, juicy pastrami and a soft roll. Win. The cheese had hardened, but only due to the chilly weather and me snapping a zillion photos. Crunchy, tangy kraut and mustard was all I needed. Sure, I could have asked for more toppings (lettuce, tomato, etc.), but I wanted the full-on meaty, kraut-y experience.

The presentation may have been messy, but it's all good. I would have sat there all day eating this, frozen my panda ass off, and still been happy. It just may be a fork-and-knife job for the namby-pamby. Me? If there were no one else present, I'm diving in with no hands. Actually, there were people around, and I still went all in on this bad boy. Is there really any other awesome way to go about this one?

This cart generally opens at 8 a.m. and goes into the evenings. Check this cart out! 7.75/10

  1. Wow, that is NOT what the hot pastrami looked like that I got there. The meat was very dry the bread was okay, almost no kraut and very minimal cheese. I'll give this cart one more shot, but was very disappointed with the first attempt.

  2. Aaron,

I didn't see a place to shoot you a private note, so I must apologize for trying to contact you publicly in your comments. I'd love to talk to you / hear your thoughts about a new food-finding project (www.menupolitan.com) I'm working on with a few friends. It'd be awesome to get your feedback...
