My first trek to Granville Island was an interesting one. It's really a lot of one-way streets and several parking lots. As long as you know where certain places are, or don't mind walking a decent amount, it's not too bad to navigate. Over half the battle is getting your bearings.
A la Mode is inside the public market, also home to several food stands. A la Mode's menu includes several savory pot pies and dessert pies.
Since logic always dictates eating dessert first, the Lemon Meringue Pie slice ($8.95) caught my eye and was next on the list. Since it's already made, it didn't take long to get my order.
The meringue was probably a good 5x the height of the lemon tart, extremely light, and beautifully torched. A nice line had formed to order, but the pie was delicious and worth standing in line for.
Since it was still chilly and rainy when we were there, most of the crowd stayed indoors to eat. There are some benches outside to dine at, although beware of the aggressive seagulls who seemingly eat very well and aren't afraid to fight each other for food scraps.
A la Mode was an excellent choice for a sweet treat, and I'll remember that one the next time I head to Canada. 8.5/10
