For the last half-day in Canada on this trip, we headed to Steveston. It was on the way toward the Canada-Washington border, and it's a nice town for sightseeing and touristy activities near the water. Be prepared to walk a bit, as there are several blocks of shops, and the wharf is a good spot for a selfie.
Steveston was also home to a lot of Japanese-Canadians. There's even a museum inside a small post office that tells their story - and especially what they went through in World War II.
Even on a Saturday, you'll be able to find parking, as there are a couple of parking lots and a bunch of street parking nearby.
Breakfast Table looked like the popular place in town. Bright and spacious interior. The meal started with a carafe of water placed at our table.
The menu and specials that made me salivate. Unique twists on classic dishes that I've never seen before. I already know if I went back, I'd be getting one of those. For example, I was thinking about getting that Coffee Crusted Pork Belly Benedict. Heck, even the special that weekend sounded incredible. Thai Style Pork Katsu Benedict?!
This time, I stayed somewhat simple with the Hipster Benedict ($20.25): Two poached eggs, house-made peppered bacon, sliced tomato, and sliced avocado on an English muffin, coated with bearnaise sauce. Sides of potato chunks and garlicky veggies.
Even if it was one of the more "traditional" benedicts on the menu, it was delicious and wonderfully prepared. The fresh tomato and avocado gave freshness, crispy bacon, awesome potatoes and veggies. Amazing bearnaise. It makes me more excited about the unique dishes if the "classic" versions are properly made.
I also had to try their house-made hot sauce. A great option for sweet-heat, ideal for this benedict.
Excellent service here. It's best to get here as early as possible. We arrived 30 minutes after the place opened, and nearly all the tables were full. A short waitlist had formed by the time we left.
Breakfast Table is one of those elite spots I'll keep thinking about until my next trip back. 9.25/10
