Makiki Bake Shop is located on Young St. in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Apparently, my mom has been a regular at this place for a while, constantly praising how good the biscuits are. Of course, there are other items, such as pies and chiffon cakes, but the biscuits are seemingly god-like.
The Butter Mochi is a winner. Tried some for panda science and the panda approved. Well executed.
You can find the biscuits at some local supermarkets, but obviously, the freshest ones come from the bake shop itself. Furthermore, the "rejects" (usually because they are misshapen) are sold at discounted prices. Four different types of biscuits: Original, Wheat, Cinnamon Raisin, and Raisin Bran.
The biscuits are ideally prepped by cutting them in half like a burger bun and toasting them in the toaster oven. Add butter or jam (or both), and it's one of the best biscuits I've ever had. Extremely light and delicate. I honestly took a couple of bags back to the mainland with me, and probably would have taken more if I had the room.
Another (slightly larger) biscuit is made with the same ingredients, but baked with more butter. The owner told me you could microwave this and it would be great. Confirmed. I also swear it had the consistency and flavor of cornbread.
If you like biscuits and dessert, this is one of the best places to go. 9/10
