Sorry everyone, it's been months since my last post. I don't get out as often as I used to, and when I do, it's usually the same ol' spots that have unassuming food. That changed recently when one of my old friends messaged me to get some dinner. He suggested this spot and I quickly said yes, especially since I haven't been here before.
My friend said this is the 7th of at least 11 Kimchee Restaurants that have opened over the years. Usually, they are all connected and run by a different family member. Some closed during COVID (at least a couple in town or toward the eastern side of Oahu), so only a few still exist.
When we walked in, we approached the counter, and when we said we were dining in, one of the staff pointed us to a table to sit down.
The menu is the usual Korean BBQ items one might expect. Lunch and dinner prices.
I let my friend take the lead on ordering, so we got the Special for Two ($63.75). It came with kalbi, BBQ chicken, shrimp tempura, chicken katsu, meat jun, and spicy ahi wonton. Unlimited kimchee, rice, and vegetables are also included. We also ordered a side of fried pork mandoo ($12.95).
We also quickly got water and a clear seaweed soup with our kimchee sides.
The proteins came out on three separate plates. Compared to the more humble, modest portions I eat these days, this felt like a feast for four people - but, to be fair, two very hungry people or one competitive eater could easily finish this and want more.
Everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Juicy kalbi and chicken, crispy tempura and mandoo. The sides had the right amount of acidity and tang to cut through all the fatty goodness.
Maybe it's how lame my normal eating adventures has gotten over the years, but it made me appreciate how good the food can be when it becomes a rare occasion.
We each took home a plate of leftovers afterward, confirming that the portion size really could feed four normal people.

Great service overall, the staff checked on us occasionally and made sure our water glasses remained full.
Since my parents also love Korean food, I will be telling them to try this place. If you're in the area, be sure to check them out as well. 9/10
