Continuing my banh mi adventures, I stayed closer to Aloha Stadium this time around. Stadium Mall was a common spot for me to get food growing up, although I probably found myself going more to Taco Bell and Jack in the Box before my foodie bug kicked in.
Stadium Phở has won awards at least the past two years for one of Hawaii's best spots, per the Star Advertiser.
It's a typical Vietnamese restaurant menu. The pho naturally is the main item, but when my parents and I are seeking out banh mi, I was happy to see the usual options.
I got the BBQ Pork Banh Mi ($11.99): Sliced pork, cilantro (Chinese parsley), pickled carrot/daikon, fresh cucumber, and mayo inside a baguette.
Size-wise, it's probably the largest sandwich of the four spots I've recently tried so far. It's wrapped in foil and then in a takeout plastic bag.
Juicy sliced pork, but it didn't seem to have the lasting, memorable flavor like the previous three spots. Pickled veggies were good, but seemed slightly softer and could have been pickled a bit longer. Cilantro serving was within normal limits. A good baguette, but to me, No Name and Le's are better.
Although not on the menu, you can substitute tofu for the meat proteins in any banh mi.
Wait time for takeout was around 10-15 minutes. A large group arrived to dine in for lunch right after we got there, so the wait could have been longer if we had gotten there a few minutes later.
Stadium Phở is a solid spot for banh mi, but they probably won their awards for the pho that looked real good coming out of the kitchen. 8/10
