Yum Yum Pho

Yum Yum Pho is located on Moanalua Road in Aiea, Hawaii.

Continuing the banh mi adventures, I hit up another local spot that's been around as long as I could remember. There are a few parking stalls in the back, in case you were concerned about parking. Just a few tables inside. A small, intimate space that does feel like a hole in the wall. Still, it can still fill up around lunchtime, so the locals know where to go.

Typical Vietnamese menu, which they tape to the front window. Very reasonable prices all around.

I stuck with the plan and got their BBQ Pork Banh Mi ($9.99). Sliced BBQ pork, fresh cucumber, sliced pickled daikon/carrots, cilantro, and mayo inside a baguette.

Another excellent banh mi here, and certainly at a great price. Flavorful, juicy pork. Daikon and carrots pickled wonderfully, a wonderful balance between vinegar and sugar.

Not much cilantro here, and No Name probably will forever hold the record for the most cilantro and cucumber sticks inside a banh mi. Unfortunately, I didn't see any jalapeƱos in Yum Yum Pho's version, which I think would have upped the experience.

The baguette is also good, but I think Le's Banh Mi still reigns as the winner. While I didn't eat Yum Yum's banh mi right away, I don't think eating the sandwich right after receiving it would have mattered, as we took the Le's sandwich home and waited a good half hour before digging in.

But back to Yum Yum. Overall, a great experience, and with all the excellent reviews online, it's just a matter of time before I try their pho.

I will definitely return to Yum Yum Pho in the near future. 8.25/10
