Alejandro's Mexican Food (Pearl City)

Alejandro's Mexican Food has two locations on Oahu. This blog post covers the spot on Kamehameha Hwy in Pearl City, Hawaii.

Per their website, Alejandro's started as a taco cart in Waikiki's International Marketplace from about midnight to 4 AM. Their Kalihi spot opened in 2015 and a now-closed spot in Kapahulu opened in 2020. This Pearl City spot opened around June 2022, which is near Ben Franklin Crafts and Daiso.

Typical Mexican food menu, from tacos and burritos, to quesadillas and combo plates. There are specials from Tuesday through Saturday.

I ordered the Carnitas Burrito ($9.95): Slow-cooked pork, Mexican rice, pinto beans, onion, cilantro, and salsa inside a 10" flour tortilla. You'll have your choice of salsas on the side: either a green one that's likely tomatillo-based, or a red sauce that has a bit more kick.

Very good carnitas here, juicy and tender. Rice seemed to make up a good half of the burrito's contents. A bit more cilantro and onion inside the burrito than I normally expect, but a good thing here because that added flavor to the experience. The burrito itself otherwise was more on the dry side, since there was no cheese and not many ingredients otherwise that could bind everything together a bit better.

I preferred the red sauce here for added kick and flavor. The mild salsa verde simply didn't leave a lasting impression on me.

Overall, I think the burrito was fine for $10, although I'd probably take a bit more salsa roja next time.

The Taco Tuesday option is particularly enticing. 50 cents off tacos, which are 5" street taco size. Three or four of those should be a fairly decent meal. Taco combos, which include rice, beans, and a drink, are also decent value plays.

Alejandro's also still has their Kalihi location, so if you're in either area, I'd still say give these guys a try. 7.5/10
