Thyda's Tacos

Thyda's Tacos is located on Queen Street, between Cummins and Kamakee Streets, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Ever since a coworker mentioned this food cart stand several months ago, it's been on my list to try. More so due to laziness, I finally visited Thyda's right before 2024 ended.

There's not much of a sidewalk on this part of Queen, so just need to be careful for traffic. There's also not many parking spots by Thyda's. Presumably, one can park right next to the business if there's space, but most of the customers call in their order and walk over to pick it up.

It's a fairly simple menu with up to six different proteins or protein substitutes. Mulitas are similar to a smaller quesadilla.

I went on a Tuesday, and thus, Taco Tuesday was the logical choice. Thyda's discounts their taco prices as a special, so I got three Barbacoa tacos ($7.50). Street taco style here. 4-inch double corn tortillas, choice of meat, cilantro, onion, and lime wedge. Tacos also come with grilled onion, escabeche (pickled jalapeƱo and carrot), and fresh radish slices.

Very good tacos here. Juicy, tender barbacoa (beef cheek), and the escabeche bought some liveliness and kick.

Thyda's has three house-made hot sauces. The green is usually the mildest, likely made with tomatillos. The red has medium heat level, and the spicy orange version contains habaneros. Well made and delicious. There are some small plastic containers there to take some sauce with you.

Great service, and with 3-4 people in the cart, it was not too long a wait even when including phone orders. Well worth trying, so check Thyda's out if you're not far from downtown. 8.25/10
