The ModHaus food pod initially opened in February 2026 with some food carts, with the official grand opening on September 20. The same team who created the successful Heist Food Pod on SE Woodstock brought us ModHaus.
I left the Pacific NW in late 2019, months after Jojo opened in the Sellwood area. I kept hearing and seeing rave reviews about their fried chicken sandwiches and jojos. Other food spots - and plain forgetting to get to Jojo - got in the way. And finally, after seven years, I remembered to go. Since I love going to SE Division for the food scene, I was delighted to see Jojo here.
Jojo has not only beaten the average Portland food cart lifespan, it's achieved great success with both a food cart and a brick-and-mortar. While the brick-and-mortar has an expanded menu, the food cart sticks to their smash burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, and jojos.
I got the Southern Fried Chicken ($16) and a regular order of Jojos ($6.50). The sandwich starts with a fried chicken thigh, jojo sauce, cole slaw, and pickles on a butter roll. They have virtually mastered the frying on that chicken. Crispy on the outside, while juicy and flavorful. Good refreshing slaw, pickle does its job, and their Jojo sauce - think fry sauce for burgers and chicken sandwiches - hits all the right notes.
The jojos here are exactly what you want: Healthy portion. Crispy crunchy on the outside, pillowy soft inside, and no grease whatsoever. Seasoned beautifully with what seems like a mix of at least salt, pepper, and paprika. Jojo sauce works wonderfully here as well. As a bonus, if by chance you do have leftovers, they keep very well.
The only downside is they may not serve drinks from their cart. Luckily, the ModHaus pod will have beer options and other carts serving drinks.
It was worth the seven years to get to Jojo. I'm confident they can be around for a long time. 9.25/10
