Irrational Pie is a roaming food woodfired pizza truck around Albuquerque, NM. On Mondays, they set up shop outside Marble Brewery.
I knew that food trucks generally have a rotating schedule (and such food truck owners post their upcoming schedule in advance), but to be perfectly honest, I had no clue Irrational Pie set up outside Marble Brewery until I passed by the area. After two days of mostly driving to other cities, I just wanted a beer on Monday afternoon. I figured finding an ABQ food truck during my stay would merely be a bonus. Lo and behold, I ended up with a double win in the process.
Irrational Pie posts their schedule on their website.
This food truck brings amazing woodfired pizzas to Burque. Their woodfired oven is inside the truck.
The menu includes choices like the margherita and veggie. And because it's New Mexico, they have diced green chile. You can customize your pie as well. On a separate menu, Irrational Pie has dessert offerings.
I went with a Pepperoni and Green Chile pizza ($10). A nice New Mexican addition to a classic pie. Green chiles came from Berino, NM (for those wondering, that's south of Las Cruces, right next to the NM-Texas border).
The crust is chewy and excellent, with that slight crunch that you want in a woodfired pizza. Blackened spots show where the pie got real close to the flames. I personally love that.
Pepperoni here is great. But of course, the green chile just adds that special touch that brings a smile to the panda's face.
I figure if Pyro Pizza in PDX got some roasted green chiles, they might be seeing more of me. Just sayin'.
Now I can say I went to an ABQ food truck. I hope to return and find more trucks in the city! 8.5/10
