Over Easy

Over Easy has six locations, five of them in Arizona and one in Bellingham, Washington. This blog post covers the spot on E Warner Road in Gilbert, Arizona.

Over Easy was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives a few years ago. Their signature dishes include a Ham Steak, Chicken Fried Steak, and their Chicken and Waffles. They also have four types of eggs benedicts available. At lunchtime, they even have a Cubano with Sunny Egg. I have no idea why more places don't have that as an option...pure genius.

Of course, I started my breakfast with coffee.

I ordered the Banana Nut French Toast, as seen on DDD. Four slices of brioche in their secret batter, then griddled. All topped with pecans, caramel, and bananas. Normally, I'm not a huge sweets person, but I frankly found that too good to pass up.

Excellent, light french toast, easy to cut and devour. I loved the caramel, not too sweet here, although I'm sure the coffee pairing may have had a little to do with that. Still, an awesome dish. If you're more of a sweet breakfast fan, this is for you.

My friend got the ham steak, as seen on DDD. It's topped with housemade redeye gravy, with two eggs and potatoes (i.e. hashbrowns). I must say, if I had more than one stomach, I would have considered ordering that with my french toast.

Very good service here; they made sure my coffee cup stayed filled.

The other Arizona spots are in Arcadia, Mesa, Scottsdale, and Phoenix, with three more to come. The closest one for me would be Bellingham, but that's about 4-5 hours away. Still, if you're craving breakfast, Over Easy is a solid choice! 8/10
