Señor Pepé

Señor Pepé is located in the Ala Moana Shopping Center food court in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Mexican food felt like a good idea recently, and while I didn't see many Mexican spots growing up in Hawaii, I'm happy to see an increased presence on Oahu.

While people still wear masks during COVID-19, it's clear that Hawaii is otherwise returning to normal. Tourism is back, although the majority of visitors I saw likely came from the U.S. mainland at this time.

There are a few meal options to choose from, and this time I got the Burrito Bowl ($11.99). It starts with choice of Mexican rice or chopped lettuce (keto friendly) as the base, then choice of beans (chipotle black or refried), choice of meat, and choice of toppings. Toppings include cheese, corn salsa, jalapeños, cilantro, and guacamole.

I went rice, black beans, carne asada, and all toppings (but just hot salsa and no sour cream).

Solid burrito bowl, everything that you'd find in a tortilla. Meat cubed fairly small, but cooked properly. They do tend to skimp on it, in my book, so if you're looking for something more meat-packed, I'd request a double portion somehow or look for another spot.

My friend went with the XL Wet Burrito with rice and beans ($14.95). He got the shredded chicken and probably got more meat than I did. Again, while there is nothing that makes it truly stand out as a destination spot, it does the job and was indeed a nice portion.

This is a fast-casual spot where you'll get your food within a couple minutes.

For a quick no-frills Mexican meal, Señor Pepé is a good spot to try. 7/10
