Turkey and the Wolf

Turkey and the Wolf is located at the corner of Jackson Ave and Annunciation Street in New Orleans, Louisiana.

An hour or so after dining at Molly's, Mom and I drove over to its sister outpost, Turkey and the Wolf. Same owners, different menu - and even more wildly popular.

We passed by Turkey and the Wolf the previous day just before 3 PM, and the line was still out the door. Coming back on a cooler Sunday morning with worse weather, the line already started forming about 15 minutes before opening.  We were probably 12th in line and it was still 10 minutes before opening.

While we waited for the place to open, I took more pics of the artsy outside.

Menu is fairly small, but mighty. Virtually everything looks good, and there are even vegan options.

Once inside, the line heads straight to the ordering counter, where you'll place your order. You'll get a toy marker of some type (ours was a dinosaur) and the food will be brought to you. There's a self-serve area in the back right for water, napkins, utensils, and condiments.

Mom and I split the Fried Bologna sandwich ($13.99): Leighann's bologna, Via's Mom's hot mustard, potato chips, shredded lettuce, mayo, and American cheese on big toast. When it got to our table, we were pretty happy to be sharing this one. An imposing single-deck sandwich.

Since we were sharing, our extra plate was totally 90s. Even the salt and pepper shakers were on Hot Wheels.

The bologna sandwich here is amazing. Tangy, slightly spicy, crunchy, salty, creamy, virtually every texture and taste you'll want. If you're a big eater, this one sandwich should be pretty satisfying. Yet, it's also good for sharing or saving a half for later.

A side of crinkle-cut fries ($3.99) also hit the spot. Much like at other places, these appear to be bagged fries or at least not fresh, yet they are wonderfully seasoned and beautifully browned/crisped.

No special drinks here for us, just water.

The line didn't end even as we were leaving. It was probably just as long as when it opened. Luckily, Turkey and the Wolf has extra covered seating outside, which might not be a bad idea if it was a hotter day.

Turkey and the Wolf was one of the best spots we got to on this trip. It's a true destination spot to get excellent food without breaking the bank or needing to dress up fancy. It's probably one of the first spots I'd head back to on a return trip. 9.5/10
