Another breakfast spot on my New Orleans list included Molly's Rise and Shine, which has interior accessories that make my inner 80s and 90s kid giddy.
E.T.? Check. Nickelodeon GUTS aggro crag trophy? Check. Chutes and Ladders board game? Check. WWE Ultimate Warrior wrestling buddy? Check.
It's a simple menu at Molly's, usually just open for breakfast and lunch.
I got the Grand Slam McMuffin ($9): sage pork sausage, hashbrown, griddled onions, American cheese, and Heinz ketchup inside an English muffin. I added an overeasy egg for $2 more, truly making this an upscale McDonald's version. In fact, given the name, I'm surprised McDonald's hasn't sued in any capacity that I know of.
After ordering at the counter, we took a seat at any empty table. A trophy is the marker that the server uses to find you. A line formed after we ordered, so arriving maybe a half hour after opening was decent timing.
The breakfast sandwich was delicious. Juicy sausage. Crispy hashbrown patty exterior and griddled onions help elevate this one. I think the egg is worth the extra two bucks.
I also got a small drip coffee for $4. It's their on Hey! cafe blend that you can also buy to take home. This one is pricey compared to other places (see Cafe Du Monde, for example), but good coffee anyway.
Much like if you were in Portland, it's only street parking here. There might be a space within the adjacent residential area, but it could depend on the day you go.
Molly's Rise and Shine provided a proper start to my day, both in food and nostalgia. Definitely worth checking out. 8.5/10
