Morning Call Coffee Stand

Morning Call Coffee Stand is located at the corner of Canal Blvd and City Park Ave in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Starting my last full day in Louisiana, I wanted another order of beignets from another business. I randomly passed by Morning Call the previous day and remembered it was on my list, so I wanted to get back there for beignets and coffee.

Mom and I got there several minutes after opening. We learned that you order at the counter if doing a takeout order; if you're dining in, just find an empty table and a server will take your order.

Morning Call's menu has more than beignets and coffee. They also serve local fare like Red Beans and Rice, Jambalaya, and Gumbo. However, since it was early in the morning and I had a list of places to try on the last day, I had to pace myself.

Unlike at other places, an order of beignets ($3.50 for three) come without powdered sugar. Instead, the powdered sugar is already in a container at your table, so you're able to add however much you like. These beignets are lighter and fluffier than Cafe Du Monde, and just as large. As you'll see in the pics below, the air pockets inside are much larger. Same crispy exterior, perfectly fried.

So are these better than Cafe Du Monde? Believe it or not, we preferred Cafe Du Monde slightly, liking a bit of density in the beignet. But make no mistake, Morning Call is still amazing and well worth getting, and it's reflected in the score.

I had a very good coffee here, made with their own special blend. You're able to buy a bag of their coffee at the counter for $13.25.

Mom enjoyed her small hot chocolate ($3.50). Properly made and satisfying.

Like Cafe Du Monde, Morning Call is cash only, so make sure you have some before coming down.

Before I left, I had to get at least one picture of the beignet making.

I highly recommend Morning Call if you'd like an alternative beignet option. It's also naturally way less crowded and out of the way than Cafe Du Monde, so you'll probably be able to slow down more and enjoy everything here. 9/10
