Bottle Rocket

Bottle Rocket is a burger food cart located at the Cartopia food pod (SE 12th and Hawthorne) in Portland, Oregon.

Cartopia's newest food cart opened in July 2017. One of the cooks used to work at the iconic dive bar Club 21 before that closed earlier this year. Bottle Rocket's owner, Dustin Knox, also owns the successful Perierra Creperie and Chicken & Guns carts in the lot.

I love the simple menu here. The main item is a burger (hamburger, cheeseburger, or a bacon cheeseburger). There are about 5-6 sides, two types of homemade lemonade, and a few alcoholic beverages (cans or bottles).

I got the Bacon Cheeseburger value meal ($14). The patty is 5 oz of ground chuck from Nicky Farms. Add two slices of bacon, cheddar, fresh and grilled onions, sriracha mayo, lettuce, and pickles on a toasted bun.

Juicy and tender patty, still slightly pink in the middle. Perfect golden brown bacon. The toasted bun makes the burger experience so much better, and I wish more places did that. Sriracha mayo and grilled onions were awesome. Outstanding burger overall, and I'd say it's among one of the best in the city.

The burger meal came with one side, and I couldn't pass up the spicy fish sauce tots. A very unique side option indeed. Crunchy tater tots with fish sauce and chile pepper flakes. Admittedly, I thought they went a bit overboard on the fish sauce, but that's actually pretty easy to do. Dial the fish sauce back a tad and it will be ideal.

Refreshing lemonade, just the right ratio of tart and sweet.

Other sides include lemon steamed broccoli, chili flake green beans, flash fried brussels sprouts, tempura cauliflower, and lemon hoisin sauce.

Bottle Rocket is an elite burger spot in Portland! 9/10
