Spero's House of BBQ

Spero's House of BBQ is located on E 50 S in Malad City, Idaho.

You must be wondering how the panda ended up in Malad City, of all places. Basically, I wanted to knock another state off the list, and Malad is one of the first towns (if not the first) you hit when crossing into SE Idaho going up I-15 from Utah. It's the only city/town in Oneida County and has a population of just over 2,000. Going on a Sunday, the town was practically empty, save for people at church or at some of the convenience stores. And then there was Spero's BBQ open for business. Oh, and Malad is about 4,500 feet above sea level, so it does get chilly.

The smokers are outside for all to see. It's basically a BBQ stand, and does not appear to be a food truck or trailer.

Typical BBQ menu options at Spero's, from combination plates to sandwiches/sides.

I went with the Pulled Pork sandwich ($5.75) and a side of German potato salad ($2.50). This frankly is a town I would never expect to find a place like Spero's, but everything was spot on. Soft bun, very tender and juicy pork, and a lovely BBQ sauce that was on the thinner side but packed all the flavor it needed. Even the German potato salad was great; I got the unmistakable mustard in there with perfectly cooked potatoes.

Since it was right around the lunch hour, a few others stopped by, but it was by no means a real bustling spot. Perhaps that changes depending on the time and day.

There is some covered seating to shield oneself from the cold, but there are other chairs and tables outside still exposed to the elements.

Spero's is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but rocks it on the other days.

I'm not sure how many of my fellow readers will go to Malad City, but Spero's proved to be a wonderful spot for a quick meal. 8/10
