After over three years in business, we bid The Cheese Plate a fond farewell on August 16, 2015. Nick and Carina decided to close the cart and focus on their new vegan endeavor, Of Roots and Blooms.
Like many others, I was saddened to see this cart close its doors for the final time. I consider Nick and Carina good friends, and it was one heck of a cool cart. Special menus ran all week, comprising of the more popular menu items over the 3+ years.
Fellow food writer Steven Shomler came down to help with the farewell party.
While my schedule would later take me to the Double IPA Fest at Saraveza, I had to indulge one last time at The Cheese Plate. The Asparagus Grilled Cheese ($6) with cheddar, grilled asparagus, and truffle aioli on Fleur de Lis levain bread will forever live on as one of the all-time great grilled cheeses I've had the privilege to enjoy. Even the presentation -- on a mini cutting board -- is hard to top.
Nick presented me with my final meal here.
I will be sure to visit Of Roots and Blooms when that finally opens. Best wishes to the crew on their new endeavor!
