Hair of the Dog Brewing

Hair of the Dog Brewing is located on SE Yamhill in Portland, Oregon.

I finally tried this place about three weeks ago on a Friday night. The place had a decent group of people and crowded around the bar area, but there were a few larger tables open.

The taplist has over a dozen beers, most of which are either not bottled or would be hard to find. The awesome Blue Dot Double IPA is a fixture on tap, but before getting a 12 oz of that, I tried a 3 oz taster of their "Blue Dot from the Stone" -- basically the Blue Dot beer fermented in their concrete egg. Another delicious brew.

Next, appetizers. Four words: Chuck Norris Duck Wings. For $7, these wings have habanero flavor and good heat. It was more a braised, fall-off-the-bone presentation than a fried wing. Still very tasty and served with pickled vegetables.

On the main course, I went with the Reuben ($9.75): House-made corned beef, cantal cheese, sauerkraut, and 1000 Island on rye. Kettle chips on the side. Well executed, crunchy toasted rye, and a delicious go-to sandwich.

I didn't stay for dessert, but trust me, that Beeramisu is calling my name, dammit.

Good service overall. You'll basically be parking on the street here, and I found a spot maybe three blocks away. Check out Hair of the Dog if you like beer and good food! 8.5/10
