Kikuya Restaurant

NOTE: I forgot that I first went here in May 2011. Link to the original post is above. Time flies.

Kikuya is located on N School Street in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Before one of my friends went on a mainland trip, he suggested this spot since I was in the mood for sushi. Since it also rained, we got treated to a double rainbow before heading inside.

It's a typical Japanese restaurant menu, although the focus today was sushi. Kikuya has several options for rolls, nigiri, or sushi hand rolls. Tea also was free with our water.

We got miso soup, tsukemono, and edamame before the meal.

I got the Spicy Tuna Roll ($9) and the Rainbow Roll ($16.95). Spicy tuna is fairly straightforward on the description, while a Rainbow Roll is simply fish/shrimp and avocado on a California roll. Each plate came with wasabi and ginger. Everything was delicious and well-prepared. Fresh ingredients.

My friend can eat a lot and enjoyed several items, including:
  1. Salmon Skin Hand Roll ($8; not pictured): Included avocado and cucumber inside.
  2. Kikuya Roll ($16.95): One of the house specialties, it's a California roll with scallops and a special sauce on top, then oven-baked.
  3. Super California Roll ($15.95): Unagi on a California roll.
  4. Tempura Roll ($15.95): Spicy tuna and shrimp tempura in the middle
  5. Tamago Nigiri ($4 for two pieces): Egg on sushi rice

Great service here. Going on a weeknight might have also helped, since it wasn't too busy.

At least for the sushi, Kikuya delivered solid, delicious food. Definitely worth a return trip. 8.5/10
