Yes folks, the Portland-famous Kim Jong Grillin' food cart is still alive and well. Since moving away from the area, I hadn't tried Han's food in years. But after seeing his cart at Portland's Heist pod on SE Woodstock, I figured why not for old time's sake.
Han actually saw me on one of his breaks, and I'm sure he couldn't believe his eyes after recognizing me. I told him I had moved away, so unfortunately Portland carts would be a rare treat for me now. Han immediately recommended to try his Munch Wrap, since he figured I wouldn't have had one yet (I hadn't).
As the name implies, the Munch Wrap ($15) is a Korean take on Taco Bell's Crunchwrap. Lettuce , daikon, bean sprouts, a crunchy corn tostada, cheese, and choice of meat layered inside a flour tortilla. It comes with a side of "fire-sawse", which adds another punch of Korean flavors. For my Munch Wrap, I chose pork.
As expected, this is at least 100 times better than any fast food joint. Crunchy fresh and pickled veggies, the still-crispy corn tostada in the center, perfectly cooked sliced pork, and the slightly smoky-with-gochujang fire-sawse takes those flavors to the next level. I came in with my usual high expectations because I've had Han's food before, and it's still outstanding cooking.
As I mentioned in my previous post, the Heist pod has a full bar and covered seating. Pair this Munch Wrap with a favorite beverage, and you'll be set.
I'm glad I got one more helping of Kim Jong Grillin' food before heading home. Still a Portland favorite and still delicious. 9.5/10
