Pat O'Brien's

Pat O'Brien's is located on St Peter in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana.

Whether you head to Pat O'Brien's via St Peter or through the Courtyard Restaurant on Bourbon Street, this is one of many bars you can head to in the French Quarter. No shortage of alcohol in this area.

It admittedly was a very tough call to pick which bar to try. My Mom doesn't drink and my tolerance is not going to hold a lot of alcohol anyway. When in doubt, I default to fruitier drinks, so I picked the Hurricane. And since Pat O'Brien's invented it, that made the choice easier.

Inside, you can see the history on the walls.

Pat O'Brien's Hurricane ($13.50) is now made from a premade mix so that many orders can be completed quickly. The traditional recipe includes light rum, dark rum, passion fruit juice, orange juice, lime juice, and grenadine, garnished with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry. Pat's version looks reddish in color on the top and served in a plastic cup, probably in case you wanted to take it to go. In case you weren't aware, in New Orleans, you can drink alcohol in public if it's in a plastic, paper, or styrofoam cup. But since I wasn't in any hurry, I enjoyed my drink at the bar.

I frankly have no other Hurricane to compare it to, but this one was strong and delicious. You'll easily get your money's worth in alcohol at Pat O'Brien's - and probably at any other bar in town. Strong rum flavor, but the fruit juices mellow things out slightly.

Mom and I got there right after it opened at noon, and it wasn't long before patrons filled various parts of the bar. Some left pretty quickly to get to a lunch spot or their next bar, allowing me to get more pictures of the inside.

Pat O'Brien's gets a big thumbs up from me. My next New Orleans trip will probably focus on other spots to expand my experiences that much more. 8/10
