Matt's Big Breakfast

Matt's Big Breakfast has two locations: downtown Phoenix and the PHX Airport Sky Harbor (Terminal 4). This blog post covers their airport terminal location.

Guy Fieri featured their downtown spot on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.

Being the panda foodie that I am, I basically had zero clue on if I wanted breakfast or lunch, and if I wanted a decent portion or a food coma-laced feast. Figuring that I still had another flight to catch and a mountain of food/beer to follow, I didn't want to incapacitate myself just yet.

They proudly serve local coffee from Roastery of Cave Creek (ROCC) in Cave Creek, AZ.

"The Five Spot" is their breakfast sandwich with bacon, American cheese, two eggs, and grilled onions. Potatoes on the side. Nice portions. The roll is large, yet soft and fluffy. The roll's flavor reminded me of a croissant. The potatoes were seasoned generously with salt and pepper. Overall, I'd say The Five Spot hit the spot.

Peering over to what other people were getting, I saw huge Reubens flying out the window. House-made corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss, and 1000 Island grilled on rye.

This is a place that does big portions right. People coming here or to the original downtown location may be taking a doggy bag with them. 8.5/10
