Xócotl

Xócotl is located at Portland Mercado (SE 72nd and Foster) in Portland, Oregon.

This is a new spot at Portland Mercado, with their grand opening back in March. It is a family-run business, with the owners growing up in Mexico City and coming to Oregon about 15 years ago. You can read more from their Grand Opening announcement.

The focus here is fruits, usually juices and smoothies. For smoothies, you have three choices of milk to choose from (soy, rice, or almond). There is fresh fruit also for sale in a cart next to the counter.

I went during Cinco de Mayo, and not surprisingly, the entire Mercado was busy. No event, just a lot of people.

I got the Berry-Rico Smoothie ($6.50): bananas, acai berries, blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries. I asked for almond milk in mine. I got a very thick smoothie, lots of berries and very refreshing.

Being just a couple of months in business, I'm not sure if Xócotl was ready for the line of customers, and they are likely still trying to get a rhythm going. It took a few minutes for them to start on my order, and it looked like there were maybe a couple of blenders at the most. Consistency appears to be a work in progress. My friend's smoothie was on the liquidy side, while mine was very thick.

Xócotl is definitely in time for the summer months, though, so give them a shot if you're at Portland Mercado! 7/10
