I'm a big breakfast fan, and after viewing the menu, I knew I had to get here ASAP when visiting family. Oh, and the "BLD" here stands for "Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner."
In addition to pancakes and waffles, this place has many other usual breakfast foods, such as omelets and French toast.
It's a fast casual spot, where you order at the counter. They'll give you a number after ordering. Take a seat, and the server will bring you your food.
In a slight departure from my usual coffee (which I had already gotten elsewhere), I had some hot chocolate at Pancakes and Waffles ($2.75). And whipped cream FTW.
Omelets here have four eggs and come with choice of rice, toast, pancakes, or home fries. The veggie omelet ($10.25) has tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, spinach, and mushrooms. If you want egg whites here, that's an extra $1.50. Proper omelet, and after a dash of hot sauce, I was a happy panda.
As for the starch, you knew I went with pancakes. Three good-sized pancakes, extremely fluffy and perfect. Certainly worthy of a place with "pancakes" in the name.
But I also couldn't leave without trying the Fried Rice Loco Moco ($8.95). A bed of fried rice, topped with a hamburger patty, two overeasy eggs, and brown gravy. Well-seasoned hamburger and excellent fried rice. Eggs were properly runny inside. Top-notch gravy brings everything together. Easily a killer deal and highly recommended.
It might be away from the bustle of downtown Honolulu, but the place had a lot of patrons. Even with the large crowd, my parents and I got our orders in less than five minutes. Insanely quick.
If you're craving breakfast, Pancakes and Waffles BLD is the place to go! 9/10
