Kate's Kitchen is located on N Oak Trafficway in Kansas City, Missouri.
Did another Google search to find a nice breakfast spot in KC and got this tip. It's part of the White Oak Commercial Center strip mall. It looks just like any other spot in the strip mall, with just a small blue sign to note its presence. Once you're inside, you'll get the bright, welcoming interior of a good breakfast spot.
Kate's has many of the usual breakfast and lunch offerings, so I tried to get something that used local ingredients and homemade options. Fortunately, the Omelette Italia ($7.49) had both of those options: Scimeca's Italian sausage, spinach, roasted red peppers, mushrooms, and jack cheese. It came with a side of potatoes and choice of bread or a homemade biscuit. Of course, I couldn't pass up the homemade biscuit.
First off, a nice portion size for $7.49. I enjoyed the sausage and the veggies inside the omelet. Excellent potatoes, nicely seasoned and one where you could instantly see were real spuds. Finally, kudos for the light, fluffy biscuit. Although the meal came with a side of butter, I opted for some jam on the biscuit and hot sauce (just Cholula here) on everything else.
Bottomless coffee is about $2 here. No complaints.
I found another place in KC that serves cinnamon rolls. And again, the panda ran out of room. My capacity has long left me, but at least I got to savor a damn good breakfast.
Kate's reminds me a lot of Breakfast at Valerie's in Vancouver, WA. Both are located in strip malls, but have such homey interiors and great food. Kate's is yet another place I would definitely come back to. 8.75/10
