Petrucci's Ice Cream

(Happy New Year to all!)

Petrucci's Ice Cream (and Country Market) is located on Hedgesville Road in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

In my quest to get to all 50 states, mom and I drove from Gettysburg through the country roads, crossed the Potomac River, and landed in West Virginia. Martinsburg (population about 17,000) is in the Eastern Panhandle of the state. It may not be a drive I make for a long time (if ever again), so I took in as much as I could.

Narrow covered bridge. Only wide enough for one car to go through.

The next fun part was seeing if there was any food spots to stop at in this part of West Virginia. Enter Petrucci's, which doubles as a country market and an ice cream shop. Stopping through on Sunday, the country store was closed, but the ice cream space was open.

Many flavors of ice cream to choose from. Over 30, by my count.

Mom, being a chocoholic, got their chocolate ice cream. I asked for a local favorite: Peanut Butter, Cookie Dough, and Caramel ice cream. We each got a small ($2.50 each), but I swear, the scoop felt like a large. I mean, look at that. At least a softball-sized scoop each.

Delicious ice cream. Lots of density, very creamy and rich. Awesome peanut butter experience, with cookie dough pieces throughout. Caramel just added more to the experience.

Seasonal specials also available

It may be a long way to go for ice cream, but it was very good ice cream. Plus, the drive is a peaceful one. The area has no traffic, consistent with the small-town vibe.

I'm not sure if I'll get back to the area, but if so, I hope Petrucci's is still there. 9.25/10
