The Mighty Bowl

The Mighty Bowl is a roaming food truck located in Vancouver, Washington. Co-owners Sherilee, Steve, and Kevin started this business in the summer of 2012. Kate also helps with taking orders in the truck.

Next to Clark College on a Wednesday
With a dearth of food trucks in the City of Vancouver, I basically learned of this truck through a comment on a social media website. All I know is that ordinances in VanWa are very anti-food truck, much like Salem.

Mighty Bowl posts a lunch schedule for the week, and it's a regular rotation of lunch spots that include the Clark County courthouse area and Clark College. Usually open Mon-Thu.

The truck has a menu that reminds me of The Whole Bowl in Portland. It's a vegetarian dish with brown rice, black beans, cheddar cheese, salsa, sour cream, olives, avocado, and cilantro. Small bowls are $5.50 and large bowls are $6. If you really want that street food option, you can get any of the bowls in a wrap ("Rolled Bowl") for $6.75.

But here, you'll have three different sauces to choose from. Each sauce is gluten-free, dairy-free, and egg-free. The tangy house sauce used for their "Mighty Bowl" has that lemon curry flavor, extremely refreshing. The "Peanut Bowl" comes with a wonderful, mild peanut sauce that immediately screamed Thai to me (but not spicy).

It was clear from a zillion miles away that I was picking the spicy option. The "Kiggins Bowl" gets topped with a spicy chipotle sauce. Kevin had an even spicier chipotle option that uses more jalapenos. Since I laugh at jalapenos, I quickly went with that. No sour cream for me, though. Never could get into that stuff.

Much like at The Whole Bowl, I loved the healthy, filling aspects this dish contains. The sauce had a mild kick, not too spicy. You'll appreciate the texture contrasts. Each component keeps its individual identity, but works well when combined and eaten together.

There is a rotating weekly salad option for $4. Hey, if you love salads, why not? Bring the kids as well, for there's a $2 kid's bowl option with beans, rice, cheese, and choice of sauce (and that can also become a wrap for 75 cents more).

Yeah, the weather's turned much colder, but The Mighty Bowl also carries 12 oz. smoothies for $3.75. The "Arnada" (mango, pineapple, OJ, and rice milk) was a big hit throughout the summer. Yet even now, the "Hough" (banana, cocoa, peanut butter, rice milk, and dates) is quite popular. Maybe because it sounds thicker, richer, and more appropriate for fall/winter?

Oh, and don't worry, the truck has an awning to provide a waiting area as the rainy, cooler weather comes back to the Pacific NW.

This is one awesome food truck! Bookmark their website and follow them on Facebook and Twitter! 8.75/10
