Co-owners Erika (head chef) and Stephanie (manager) started this business in 2012.
This is a cart that serves healthy rice bowls with an option to add meat and other toppings. All bowls have brown rice and seasonal sauteed vegetables, but are different otherwise. There are five different bowls to choose from. The 12 oz. bowl starts at $5, and the 16 oz. bowl begins with a $7 price tag.
I went with the "Argentinian" bowl and added chicken for a couple bucks more. This bowl contains parsley and a flavorful chimichurri sauce that brings a bit of heat. On this visit, I think the brown rice was a tad overcooked, but the vegetables retained a vibrant color and a lovely crunch. I really enjoyed the chimichurri and the chicken.

The "Thai" contains cilantro, mint, peanuts, and a Thai coconut sauce. The "Kashmir" has basil, cashews, and an Indian yogurt curry sauce. The "Japanese" has seaweed, cilantro, sesame seeds, and tamari-sesame sauce. Finally, the "Mexican" has black beans, tomatillo-avocado salsa, avocado, and creamy lime sauce.
At the time of this blog post, the Thai and Argentinian bowls are the two most popular choices.
You can keep the dish vegetarian or channel your inner omnivore and add some meat. The menu is gluten-free. It may be a rather simple concept, but I love that they use local, organic, and sustainable food.
Check their website and social media accounts for their latest mobile locations. The Hawthorne spot is generally open Wednesdays through Sundays for lunch. This is a food cart worth checking out! 7.75/10
