Apizza Scholls

Apizza Scholls is located near SE 48th and Hawthorne in Portland, Oregon. This place has basically been on my bucket list of places to eat at for the past two years, and I finally stopped by for dinner late last month.

Despite a long day of running errands with my mom, I was basically hellbent on getting pizza from Apizza Scholls. The night we went (a Sunday), the place only had one working oven and the wait time to get a table exceeded an hour.

When we finally got seated, we started with the house salad with roasted shallot and sherry vinaigrette. A good salad, although I think I might have enjoyed the Caesar salad a bit more.

We did a half-and-half option, where you'll pay the price of the more expensive pizza. My mom wanted a simple pepperoni pizza, while I wanted to try the New York White pie with several cheeses, garlic, herbs, and extra virgin olive oil.

People have told me the pizza is worth the wait. I'm still not sold on waiting nearly two hours for pizza (or even an hour, for that matter), but the pizza here is great. A chewy crust with a crispness that makes me smile. Gotta love ovens that can get up to 900 degrees.

We got some It's-It ice cream sandwiches to finish the night off. The chocolate shell on these remind me of Klondike bars, but there are oatmeal cookies on the top and bottom. Mint ice cream FTW.

Apizza Scholls is open seven days a week for dinner. Just 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Not a ton of time to squeeze in your pizza noshing.

If possible, I'd highly recommend calling ahead of time and making a reservation. Great service overall. Despite the long wait, Apizza Scholls is still getting a solid score from me. 8.5/10
