J Mo's Sandwich Shack Fundraiser (8/16/14)
(Original Review -- July 2012)
On August 16, 2014, author Steven Shomler coordinated a fundraiser event to help Jason of J Mo's Sandwich Shack.
Back in March, J Mo severely broke his leg and was forced to close his cart for several months. Being a food cart owner, J Mo had no income to rely on, and Steve (owner of the Carts on Foster pod) graciously worked with J Mo to ensure that his cart would still be there upon J Mo's return.
J Mo managed to work a few part-time shifts in July, but August 16 was the big fundraising day. J Mo's signature sandwich, the "Dirty Mo," would be sold for $20. Even at that price, the quality and size of that sandwich was well worth it.
Friends and family -- including fellow food cart owners -- turned out for the event from noon to 4 PM.
The Dirty Mo is basically spaghetti, homemade meatballs, cheese, and fresh basil inside a large roll of toasted garlic bread. At nearly 2 pounds, it's common for people to split one sandwich, or have it over two meals.
While J Mo still has a long recovery road ahead, it's great to see him back on his feet and working the cart again.
