On August 3, 2014, I attended a Yelp Elite Event at Red Star Tavern, located in downtown Portland, Oregon.
Due to my schedule, I was only there for about 10 minutes. That was basically enough for me to beeline for the food.
First up: Brisket Tacos with Pickled Cabbage and Fresno BBQ Sauce. Juicy meat. Pickled cabbage worked well with the BBQ sauce. My broken taste buds probably didn't detect any heat.
Next: "Dirty Birds" (confit chicken with chile caramel). Now that's how you do chicken. Clean off the bone and a tiny kick.
Another table next to the bar had more dishes.
Ceviche was properly done, very citrusy and poppin' with cilantro. Looked like jalapenos in there to give it a little zip.
Pulled pork was legit. Incredibly juicy. If I didn't have another commitment later in the day, I would have feasted more on this and the chicken.
Great spread for the event. As you can see, pandas don't mess around when food is involved. Gotta beeline and conquer what you can get.
Not sure when my next Yelp Elite event will be, but I'm glad I went to this one!
Visited this place last month for a holiday party, the view of the main area for dining is spectacular. There is also an area for a band and an additional bar.
