Pulehu Pizza

Pulehu Pizza is located near SW 3rd and Stark in downtown Portland, Oregon. Pierre and Annebelle brought their concept of grilled pizza from Maui -- "pulehu" being a slang term for "grill."

In Maui, Pierre and Annebelle didn't have a cart, instead doing catering and pop-up events. Now in Portland, a large gas grill allows them to make pizzas in their shiny black cart.

The dough is made from scratch and the ingredients are fresh. Pizzas come in 8" and 12" sizes.

I went with their New York Steak pizza ($9 for 8"; $19 for 12"). New York steak is seasoned, grilled, and sliced. The dough is tossed on the grill, then gets a Blue Cheese and Madeira wine sauce. Mozzarella, fresh tomato, garlic, and the sliced steak get added on top.

This was an awesome pizza. Juicy, well-seasoned steak. Just a slight bite from the blue cheese. The thin crust had a wonderful crispiness to it. I folded my pizza slices and devoured them in a couple bites. The tomato added some sweetness and contributed to a lovely presentation.

Thin, crispy crust!
I'd also consider the Truffle Mushroom pizza ($8 for 8"; $17 for 12"), which has mushrooms, Grana Padano cheese, garlic, truffle oil, and cracked black pepper.

Traditional pizza fans can get the standard cheese, pepperoni, or Margherita pizza options here.

They are currently open for lunch on the weekdays, plus late-night service on Fridays and Saturdays. If you'd like Pulehu Pizza to open at other times, let them know in advance and they'll try to make it happen.

Some great pizza here! Head to this food cart! 8.5/10
