Red Ribbon Bake Shop

Red Ribbon Bake Shop has multiple storefronts across the United States, including one in Washington and two in Hawaii. This post covers the Honolulu location on Kaheka Street.

Whenever I see a purple cake in the display case, the curious panda in me just wants to get a slice. It's the Ube Cake, made with purple yams. I got a sweet potato-like aftertaste, although in the grand scheme of things, I'm not really sure what to make of it. The white cream on top was excellent, not too sweet for my tastes.

I thought the Mango Cake here was pretty good. It's made with mangoes from the Philippines. A strong mango presence here and a light slice of cake overall. I'd probably be better off with just a couple of slices at the max before the sugar starts overwhelming me.

Chocoholics will be happy to know that there is an Ultimate Chocolate Cake here.

You can also buy savory meals here, ranging from Palabok (their signature noodle dish with orange sauce and sauteed pork) to Dinuguan (savory Filipino pork stew served with rice).

Rest of the menu

Overall, a so-so first experience. Thumbs up to the mango cake, indifferent on the ube. 6.5/10
