Blockheads Shavery

Blockheads Shavery, located on Mississippi Avenue in Los Angeles, California, serves a unique shave ice/ice cream hybrid. My first experience trying snow cream!

I've had tons of shave ice and tons of ice cream in my life. But snow cream? I immediately thought that it could be a good idea to bring to Portland. I think there would be a market for something like that in the Pacific NW.

The 3-step menu has different flavors, toppings, and drizzles. You can customize your own, or pick a combo item from the right side of the menu. You can also customize the combo option to your liking. In a nutshell, there are a ton of possible combinations.

My cousin got the black sesame snow cream combo that included rice balls, cookies 'n cream topping (Oreo cookies), and condensed milk instead of the coconut puree. I didn't know what to expect from black sesame snow cream, but it was good.

Only afterward did I realize that black sesame is their most popular flavor. I can see why.

Seeking a refreshing item, I got the strawberry snow cream with strawberries, almond jelly, and strawberry puree. Never heard of almond jelly before, but it worked here.

The texture of the snow cream is amazing. You'll see such amazing layers while digging in. Totally meant for food porn photo taking.

I would definitely come back to Blockheads. One day, I hope to see something like this in the Portland area -- or the Pacific NW in general. 8.5/10
