Cheesesteak Factory

(UPDATE 8/24/13: Cheesesteak Factory has moved to SW 3rd and Stark in downtown Portland)

Cheesesteak Factory is located on SW Alder, in between 10th and 11th Ave., in downtown Portland, Oregon. It is between The Dump Truck and Ole Latte Coffee.

Here, you'll have the unique option of picking how lengthy a sandwich you want, with a 3-inch minimum. It's a reasonable $1 per inch. So for starters, I got a 6-inch Philly cheesesteak with provolone.

The Amoroso roll is one of the keys to a great cheesesteak. Gotta have that soft roll that can stand up to all the awesomeness inside. Great job on the provolone, peppers, and sauteed onions.

Unfortunately, I thought the meat -- the last piece of the puzzle -- was a bit dry for my liking. Probably left on the grill just a bit too long.

It was also admittedly a very small cheesesteak. I likely could have wolfed that thing down in about six bites. Perhaps three really messy ones.

There's also a Portland option with prime rib, grilled sweet onions, sweet peppers, crimini mushrooms, and blue cheese on a Franz pioneer roll. The CDG (perhaps for the Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris?) has au jus-soaked roast beef, caramelized onions, melted gruyere, provolone, and Parmesan on a French roll. Finally, there's a breakfast sandwich with egg, steak, Philly toppings, and cheese on a sourdough roll.

I'm sure the other sandwiches are amazing. On this visit, the cheesesteak was probably average overall. 6.5/10
