Blossoming Lotus

Blossoming Lotus is a vegetarian/vegan bistro located on NE 15th Ave. in Portland, Oregon.

I arrived around 1:30 p.m. on a Friday afternoon, and the place was filled with happy customers. After a bit of deliberation, I ordered their Crispy Thai BBQ Wrap ($8.50): Thai-spiced (sweet) BBQ soy curls, crispy rice sticks, carrots, cucumbers, red cabbage, romaine lettuce, and creamy sweet ginger sauce wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla. I also requested (and received) a small container of their house red hot sauce on the side at no extra charge...awesome!

First of all, the chef cut the wrap on the bias and presented a lovely, colorful cross-section to me. More importantly, the wrap was absolutely delicious. The sweet creamy ginger sauce brought the soy curls, rice sticks, and the already-refreshing vegetables to a new level. Adding the house-made red hot sauce gave the slightest kick to add an even more mouth-pleasing dimension to the dish.

I have a huge appetite, so this felt a little more like a large $8.50 appetizer. But a fine appetizer it was! I guess the only other (small) criticism would be to up the spice on the hot sauce. A job well done! 8.5/10
