Mean Poutine

Mean Poutine is located on Nelson Street (near Granville) in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Mean Poutine opened in 2011, serving up variations of the awesome comfort dish. The two co-founders were football players for the BC Lions, and it basically turned into a family business after that.

The menu has the classic poutine ($7), along with six or seven specialty poutine options.

A popular choice has been the Fried Chicken Poutine ($9), with chicken breast fried up and cut into chunks. You can get free additional toppings like diced green onions and sriracha.

I received a nice helping of chicken on top, and the diced onion garnish adds a gourmet touch. You can't go wrong with rooster sauce. Awesome stuff here.

Two other poutines on the menu that I'd like to try next:

1) Southern BBQ Poutine ($10): Slow-roasted pulled pork and double-smoked bacon. Yes.
2) Mama's Mean Meatballs Poutine ($9): Italian meatballs -- and I'm assuming homemade awesomeness.

There may be some seasonal poutines on the menu, depending on the time of year. For a short time around Thanksgiving, a Candied Yam Poutine (a sweet poutine version) was available.

You can build your own poutine here. It starts at $7, with $3 added for any meat and 75 cents for cooked veggies. Also be on the lookout for specials.

Check out their website. They are active on Twitter and Facebook.

I would love to come back to Vancouver BC and try another specialty poutine here. Great service. 8.5/10
