Rainbow Drive-In

Rainbow Drive-In is located in Honolulu, Hawaii. It is considered one of the places to go for a good Hawaiian plate lunch, having been featured on the Food Network's "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives."

I went with a Mix Plate ($7.25), which has breaded mahi mahi, BBQ teriyaki beef, and boneless breaded chicken.

While Rainbow Drive-In has had many rave reviews, this will not be one of them. I personally didn't care for much on this plate.

The macaroni salad had too much mayonnaise for my tastes and lacked the peppery bite I crave. The boneless breaded chicken did not look very appetizing. While it had OK flavor, the chicken again was slightly dry. The mahi mahi was just slightly overcooked as well, and the breaded nature on the fish reminded me a bit of upgraded fish sticks. The beef may have been the best item on the plate because it was not messed up as badly as the others.

Sorry, Rainbow Drive-In. I may have grown up in the Islands, but I'm just not a fan of the food. I'll give you credit for having such a great reputation in Hawaii (the place was filled with people), and perhaps your other menu items could be better than this. But for now, it's a no. 2/10
