Dogfeathers

(NOTE: Dogfeathers has closed permanently as of November 2013)

Dogfeathers is an organic coffee and fresh juice food cart located in the Mississippi Marketplace food pod in Portland, Oregon.

I took the advice of the cart operators and ordered a small (12 oz) Portland Sunshine ($3.75): basically a fresh juice blend of apples, oranges, strawberries, and ginger. It came with a 12 oz. house coffee (free with a purchase of any juice).

The coffee was good, nothing special there (well, other than being organic, that is). And even without the special promo that day, the small house coffee would only be $1 -- basically a steal compared to other food establishments.

The juice was what I came for, a refreshing drink that gave me some much-needed energy. I really liked the bite the ginger provided, a little surprise jab to the palate that did not overwhelm the other ingredients. Great service and friendly cart operators, but not sure if I'd pay close to $4 all the time for a 12 oz. drink.

One of their other popular juices is the Blue Moonshine (pear, apple, pineapple, and blueberry). Dogfeathers runs seasonal specials as well. In the fall, one of their specials is the Oggy Doggy (peach, apple, and strawberry). I'm certainly interested to see what their future specials are like.

Dogfeathers probably made a nice profit during the summer selling juice on those hot days. Now that the weather has cooled down, juice sales may not be as high, but perhaps their coffee/espresso will start taking off. I don't mind seeing more of these coffee/juice carts in Portland. It's something that's easy, quick to make, and very portable for the customer on the go. 7/10
