Milo's City Cafe

Milo's City Cafe is located on NE Broadway in Portland, Oregon.

I popped in on a Saturday morning, eager for a good breakfast. Milo's has a lively, bright atmosphere. The place was packed, so I opted for a quick take-out order.

I ordered the megan's Monte Cristo ($8.95 + $0.50 take-out fee): a three-layer French toast sandwich stuffed with ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese, dusted with powdered sugar and served with jam. I also received a small container of maple syrup and a side of fresh fruit..

The French toast was cooked perfectly here, a lovely golden brown. The right proportion of savory ham, turkey, and melted cheese. The jam, syrup, and powdered sugar nicely countered the meat and cheese. Nice job on the fresh fruit. If anything, I felt it was an extremely small portion for about $9.

I had a chance to scan Milo's menu. For breakfast, one can try a Santa Fe omelet ($8.95; includes chorizo, pepper jack cheese, salsa, and guacamole) or a Smoked Salmon hash with eggs ($9.95). At lunchtime, perhaps the BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich ($8.50) may satisfy the carnivore in many of us. Finally, at dinner, how about a Duck Breast with Orange Chipotle Glaze ($17.95)? A very impressive menu indeed.

Milo's is a favorite stop for many, and I can see why. I'll have to try the lunch and dinner options in the future. 7.25/10
