Coaches Scoop

Coaches Scoop is a frozen dessert food truck roaming throughout Denver, Colorado. On April 14, I found them at the Denver Food Truck Festival adjacent to South High School. At this truck, you can expect "super premium plus" ice cream!

This family-run frozen dessert truck has dished out some stellar treats since opening in 2010. Kayla is the owner, but the truck's name really comes from her father, a basketball coach and analyst on The MTN Sports Network.

The thought of combining the highest-quality ice cream with fresh baked goods intrigued me. I couldn't help but sample a couple of flavors to see what they had to offer.

The cherry chip ice cream appears to use a vanilla ice cream base, loaded with maraschino cherries and chocolate pieces. Just a delightful ice cream, with smooth, creamy consistency. The cherries and chocolate bring additional textures and flavor contrasts. It feels like a sundae in one bite.

The key lime pie ice cream is one of their bestsellers, and for good reason. The pleasing key lime flavor is front and center, a fine balance of tart and sweet. But immaculately incorporating pie crust chunks just sealed the deal for me. One of the most memorable ice creams I've had. Outstanding. It's been over a week since I returned from Colorado, and I still miss this. Sad panda face.

Sizes range from "lay-up" (smallest) to "slam dunk" (largest). A small scoop is $3 and well worth it, in my opinion.

I hope Coaches Scoop continues to shine with what they currently have, but it's always cool to come out with new, amazing flavors on occasion. There really isn't much more to be said -- other than I am envious of my friends who live in Colorado. An elite food truck indeed! 9/10
