Olympic Grill

(UPDATE 11/8/12: Food Carts Portland reports that Olympic Grill, a.k.a. Olympic Hot Dogs, has closed. Rick H. relayed the message in mid-October that Mark, the owner, sold the cart.)

Olympic Grill is located at the corner of SW 3rd and Ash in downtown Portland, Oregon. They are right next to the highly successful Big-Ass Sandwiches food cart, which may mean more foot traffic, but stiff competition. At Olympic Grill, it's about Chicago hot dogs and Philly cheesesteaks!

My friend and I split a loaded Philly cheesesteak ($7.50): sirloin steak, white American cheese, mushrooms, grilled peppers, and grilled onions on an Amoroso roll. For the heck of it, we requested sport peppers be tossed on as well.

Loaded Philly Cheesesteak...don't worry, it's just half
(Olympic Grill)
This was a delicious cheesesteak. Juicy, seasoned meat and properly melted cheese? That by itself can be considered a win. To me, the Amoroso roll has no equal, the ideal vehicle to hold cheesesteak glory. The cooked veggies retained their crunch, an enjoyable snack.

Note I said "snack." I've found other places where I can get a much larger portion for roughly the same price. That would be my one nitpick on this otherwise-satisfying visit. Perhaps a Chicago hot dog ($4.50) is in my future here. Check out Olympic Grill and try their food! 7.75/10
