Great Harvest Bread Co.

Great Harvest Bread Co. is located in multiple states, and I went to the downtown Salem, Oregon, location (Court Street) for my first taste.

When I walked into Great Harvest, I got a homey vibe and the smell of freshly baked bread. I immediately knew I would be in for a great experience. It got even better when I stepped up to their breadboard for a free slice. I got their cinnamon chip bread, with complementary cinnamon candy apple butter.

I'm telling you point-blank right now, that was one of the best slices of bread I've had in my life. The bread was warm, fluffy, and light. I got the proper amount of cinnamon flavors in the bread itself, not an overpowering feeling by any means. The cinnamon candy apple butter also knocked my socks off. Again, the proper amount of cinnamon, sugar, and apple flavors to liven up what would otherwise be a piece of warm soft cinnamon bread (but hey, the bread alone was fine too).

While the apple butter's smooth texture was nice, I'm actually quite partial to chunky spreads. I prefer the texture contrasts in the chunky spreads to help enhance my tasting experience. But it's just a minor criticism that I have in the grand scheme of things.

Great Harvest does offer pastries and sandwiches throughout the day. The best part is that they are open early in the morning, so you can definitely get the full-blown GHB experience if you want to.

Great Harvest, you did an amazing job here. I might not be much of a bread eater, but you really make me want to come back just to try a sample of every bread you got. You really hit a home run with this one. Great job! 8.75/10
