Savor Soup House

Savor Soup House, located near the corner of SW 10th and Alder in downtown Portland, Oregon, is a food cart serving soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. Carts offering hot items are definitely a pleasant sight during winter! This cart has operated since January 2009 and uses products from local vendors, keeping costs down and the quality high!

Oops, got there a tad too early....
There we go...open for business!

With the chilly weather in full force, I ordered a cup of their tomato, fennel, and orange soup ($3.50): a lovely blend of tomatoes, garlic, fennel, and a touch of orange, topped with some Parmesan cheese and house-made croutons (made with Grand Central bread). The soup came with a slice of Grand Central bread and some butter.

With a half slice of Grand Central Bread (other half in the package)
This tomato soup was hearty and delicious, re-energizing me for the rest of the day. The fennel and the orange cut through some of that richness and gave that extra dimension of flavor. The cheese and croutons broke down ever so slightly in the temperature-hot soup, warming my insides and putting that big smile back on my face.

I personally didn't need to have the side of bread, but hey, there's nothing like taking that bread (or your grilled cheese) and dunking it in some tomato soup. That's some serious comfort food.

Savor Soup House rotates their soups every weekday. Along with two types of salads and three types of grilled cheese sandwiches, one may choose to make their own grilled cheese sandwich. I personally like this touch because it allows the customer to get exactly what they want -- given the ingredients on hand at the time.

Check out Savor Soup House for some comforting soup and grilled cheese today! 8.5/10
