First of all, I didn't actually go to the restaurant. My uncle in Maui brought over some manju with white lima bean paste inside. I'm unaware of the current price, but at one point, I know you could get two dozen of these for $6.

The inside of the lima bean manju! |
This is a flaky, soft treat that is not overly sweet. The outside resembles a light sugar cookie, smooth in appearance. White lima beans are crushed into a paste, blended with the right amount of sugar for a balanced flavor.
It's funny, because my mom would always tell me to try this when I was younger and I'd always refuse. Now, I'd likely have to restrain myself from eating a dozen of these in one sitting. It's still a healthier option than a glazed doughnut, I'll say that much! So simple, yet so delicious! Check Sam Sato's out on Maui...or have someone go to Maui and get some for you!
