Sugardaddy's

Sugardaddy's, known for their brownies and "blondies," is located in downtown Columbus, Ohio. They may be best known for their "Throwdown" win against Bobby Flay in the 2007 "Blondie" episode. Sugardaddy's was founded by Columbus residents Tom Finney and Mark Ballard in 2003, starting from Tom's own kitchen. Two years later, the business venture went even more full-force, complete with trademarks, an online store, and tested recipes (which now total over 20 brownies and blondies, among other treats). Today, Tom and Mark remain successful entrepreneurs, winning several awards for their creations. Their products were also selected as "Green Room Amenities" for the Ellen DeGeneres Show from 2006 to 2008.

Maybe I shoulda gotten one of these as well....

One of the great people working at the Ohio State University law fair alerted me to Sugardaddy's. I had actually forgotten Sugardaddy's was located in Columbus, so had it not been for the tip, I would not have ventured here at all.

Walking in, I was immediately greeted by two smiling employees. The abundance of pinkish hue initially threw me for a loop, but the brownies and blondies roused me from my hypnotic state -- and into another. All the treats looked divine, and I didn't know where to begin.

All blondies and brownies are $3.25. One of the employees allowed me to sample the "Tahiti Blonde," the winning blondie from "Throwdown with Bobby Flay." This one has toasted golden-brown cashews, white and dark chocolate chunks, fresh sweetened coconut, and pineapple chunks.

The "Throwdown"-winning Tahiti Blonde!
I now know why this blondie won the throwdown. Just spot-on balanced flavors here. The cashews and coconut brought the texture contrasts I crave. Yet it's the cashews that also keep the sweetness of the coconut and the pineapple in check. And hey, chocolate in a blondie? Yes, please!

But another treat also called my name: the Fiery Brunette. Loaded with chocolate, chipotle chile, and cinnamon, it's yet another take on the Mexican Hot Chocolate treat -- in brownie form. While I didn't necessarily get a ton of spice from the chipotle, the airiness of this brownie (and even the Tahiti blondie) made every bite enjoyable.

Love the packaging!

Shaped like a hockey puck, but oh so light and delicious!
These brownies and blondies may be shaped like hockey pucks, but (thankfully) possess such light, delicate, and smile-inducing qualities! $3.25 may be a bit on the pricey side for me here, but at the very least, it's worth it for the experience.

Not in Ohio? Don't worry! Sugardaddy's will ship to you! They make their treats fresh every morning and promote their shipping with "Oven to door in 24." It's a perfect gift for parties, weddings, and other celebratory occasions. Check out Sugardaddy's today and see why they won a throwdown against a talented chef! 8.25/10
